Travel 2

A new sub-group in the club is Travel 2. They meet once a month to share ideas and plan longer trips. Some of the locations they are considering are to Savannah, Georgia; Nantucket, Massachusetts; and a leaf-peeping trip to Herman, Missouri in October of 2024. The group meetings are also open to Armchair travelers.

Day Tripper Events

Our Day Tripper group has visited several places in Iowa. Most of the day trips are in the Cedar Rapids area, but sometimes we carpool an hour to see an interesting town or museum. We enjoy lunch out and have the opportunity to spend time together and get to know other members. Guests and spouses are always welcome on our outings.

Recently the group toured the US Courthouse of the Northern District of Iowa in Cedar Rapids. In May we enjoyed learning about the Noelridge Greenhouse where annuals and perennials for planting on public property in Cedar Rapids are grown. The Stanley Museum of Art on the University of Iowa campus was our destination another month. This museum has one of the top university art collections with approximately 17,000 art pieces. Following the historic 2008 flooding, a new 50-million dollar facility was built and opened in August, 2022 with more than 16,500 sq. ft. of exhibition space. A couple other places toured were the Scattergood Friends School House in West Branch and Prairiewoods Franciscan Spitiruality Center in Hiawathia. A fun event was going bowling and getting a tour of how the bowlng alley operates.

 

2024 Upcoming Day Trips include:

• A tour of KCRG TV in Cedar Rapids. They are celebrating their 70th Anniversary.
• Grimm Peony Farm where they showcase more than 500 varieties of their award winning peonies.
• In June we will visit Montaigne State Preserve in Clermont IA. It's been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973.

Plans are being made for more fun trips and we are always open to ideas from our membership.
